A visit to Baguio without dropping by Mt. Cloud Bookshop is incomplete. The place, yet somewhat quaint, has established a huge reputation among the netizens and plain travelers alike. What could be so amazing that sets this bookshop apart from the others?
The place is picturesque. Once you descend the stairs leading to the shop’s doorway, you’re greeted by paper art and welcoming signage. The moment you step in, it’s books everywhere! It’s such an orderly chaos that seemed as if it was fresh out of the Beauty and the Beast bookshop scene where Belle borrows her books!
One thing that caught my attention is the collection of materials from local authors: from comic books to coffee table books–they have it! It is honestly a refreshing sight seeing a place prioritizing Filipino Literature which is very rare nowadays. They also have postcard photography of the various faces of Benguet which you can buy as remembrance of the place. I bought a pack and marveled at the local scenes. This somehow made me feel that even if I wasn’t able to visit those places, I get to appreciate their beauty.
Mt. Cloud Bookshop has this distinct warmth in the face of the frigid Baguio weather. The romanticism of biblichor is so strong that any book lover would be drawn to stay in this place for a long time. I guess that was what happened to me. I didn’t had any particular reason but I stayed there for an hour skimming through books.
If you are in Baguio City and have this profound love for local publication and the like, then a visit to Mt. Cloud Bookshop would definitely complete your stay.
